Rebecca (Year 11) completes her second work experience placement at Print Week in London

Rebecca Flinn, a Year 11 OsKings’ student, has - for the second time - successfully completed another work experience placement. This time, it was at Print Week in London. This was one of her prizes for winning ‘Editor of the Year’ at the 2025 Shine School Media Awards for her work towards the school magazine, ‘#Osborne’. Read more about #Osborne HERE

Rebecca, who likes to be known as Becca, wrote this report:

When I first arrived at the Printweek building I was greeted by Darryl, who was the person I was going to be working with for the day. When we walked up to the office where I was going to be sat for the day he offered me snacks then he explained all the tasks he had given me, which included writing an article for the Printweek website. Once I was settled down, he gave me a tour of the offices which used to be an old church. After lunch he checked through my article and taught me tips on how to improve it.

Darryll Danielli, from Print Week, shared this report:

Here’s Becca’s bylined article, it was published earlier today and is on our homepage and also went out on our lunchtime bulletin: https://www.printweek.com/content/news/innovation-takes-centre-stage-at-stationers-excellence-awards

Becca did brilliantly on her day with us. She took a very detailed press release and highlighted what was the most important content. She then shared her concept for how she would write/structure the article, using the news pyramid principal (most interesting info at the top), and used that information to write her own story, distilling the facts into a significantly shorter, punchier article that was much more engaging for our readers. She also selected what was by far the best image to illustrate the article, no mean feat as there literally hundreds to choose from.

Becca was a real credit to you and her school. She was focused on the task in hand and asked questions when she didn’t understand, which was exactly what we wanted - to ensure she got the most out of her day. Hopefully, she picked up some new skills that she can take back and share with the rest of the editorial team on #Osborne.

Please pass on all the above to Becca and thank her again for her hard work. I think I mentioned that we had various people unwell, on training or on leave yesterday - so it was a massive help to have Becca join our news team for the day.

Most importantly she shared the virtues of olives and chocolate ice-cream, which I will make sure to pass on to my niece at the weekend - she’s a devotee of the humble olive and is always looking for a new excuse to eat more of them!

Osborne School and The Shine School Media Awards would like to thank the Shine School Media Awards and Print Week for this wonderful experience.
